Cranford Woman Charged Driving Intoxicated & Causing Serious Crash

EDISON, NJ.- Following an investigation, a 31-year-old Cranford, New Jersey woman has been charged in connection with an Edison, New Jersey, Thanksgiving Day early morning two-vehicle car crash that has left a 35-year-old Woodbridge, woman and a 15-year-old girl hospitalized and fighting for their lives.

     According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Thursday, November 28, 2024, shortly after 1:30 a.m., members of the Edison Township Police Department responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 1 North and Parsonage Road in the Township.

Police Officers Locate Crash

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located the two vehicles that collided. One of the vehicles was occupied by Diego Mejia, 39, of Edison, along with his wife, Jessica Naranjo, 35, of Woodbridge, New Jersey, and Mr. Mejia’s 15-year-old daughter. Mr. Mejia sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized and listed in stable condition.

     Mrs. Naranjo and Mr. Mejia’s daughter sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision and are hospitalized and remain listed in critical condition.

      The second vehicle, operated by Alyssa Figueredo, 31, of Cranford, New Jersey. According to reports, Figueredo sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to JFK Medical Center for treatment.

     An investigation by Detective Chris Pitoscia of the Edison Police Department and Detective Ken McGarry of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office quickly determined that Figueredo drove through a red light and struck Mr. Mejia’s vehicle. Following the initial investigation, Detectives charged Figueredo with three counts of third-degree Assault by Auto and Driving Under the Influence, along with other motor vehicle summonses.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
