Cresskill Man Pleads Guilty To Robbing Mountain Lakes Bank

MOUNTAIN LAKES, NJ.- On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Tony Winst, 46, of Cresskill, New Jersey, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Edward S. Kiel to a federal information charging him with Bank Robbery.
Following entering his guilty plea on Tuesday, Judge Kiel accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for April 2, 2025, at which time Winst faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,00 fine. The actual term of imprisonment will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge based on the seriousness of the offense and Winst’s prior criminal history, if any.
According to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger and charging information filed with the District Court, on November 17, 2023, Winst entered a bank in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, and handed a note to a bank teller stating, “This Is A Robbery.” He further claimed to have a weapon. The bank teller gave Winst money, and he then fled the bank.
U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Mountain Lakes Police Department with the investigation, arrest, and Winst’s guilty plea.
