Indianola Man Sentenced For Traveling To Wisconsin To Sexually Assault Child

Saturday, November 30, 2024, 5″50 P.M. ET. 1 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

MADISON, WI.- On Friday, November 22, 2024, Reginal Wright, 38, of Indianola, Mississippi, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of Wisconsin and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge William M. Conley to 102 months in federal prison, to be followed by ten years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea.

On August 20, 2024, Wright appeared before Judge Conley and pleaded guilty to Traveling Across State Lines to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct with a minor.

During the sentencing hearing last Friday, Judge Conley noted that Wright took advantage of a child for his own sexual gratification. Judge Conley further noted the “Gaping Age Difference” between Wright and the child, who Judge Conley described as vulnerable and clearly childlike. Finally, Judge Conley stated that Wright made a “Sordid Decision” and caused the child trauma that she may not fully understand until later.

According to U.S. Attorney Timothy O’Shea and charging documents filed with the court, on November 7, 2023, Wright traveled from Mississippi to Madison, Wisconsin, and picked up a 12-year-old girl from her foster home. Wright sexually assaulted the girl while in Wisconsin and then later in Tennessee and Florida.

Law enforcement officers later tracked the child’s location and eventually rescued her from a Greyhound Bus traveling from Florida to Atlanta, Georgia.

This case was investigated and brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
