Mexican Man Sentenced To Federal Prison For Drug Trafficking

BEAUMONT, TX.- Late last month, a 42-year-old Mexican man living in the United States illegally learned he would be spending nearly the next seven years in federal prison after being sentenced for federal drug trafficking violations.

     According to U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Francisco Santana Herrera, 42, a Mexican national, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Marcia A. Crone to 80 months in federal prison for his previously entered guilty plea to Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

     According to charging information filed with the court, on April 10, 2024, members of the Beaumont Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Herrera for speeding in a construction zone on Interstate 10 in Beaumont, Texas. During a search of Herrera’s motor vehicle, Police Officers discovered around 16 kilograms of cocaine.

     U.S. Attorney Diggs commended the investigative work of the Beaumont Police Department, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations/ Customs Enforcement.
