Cliffside Park Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Child

FAIRVIEW, NJ.- Following an investigation, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a 32-year-old Cliffside Park, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the multiple sexual assaults of a child under the age of sixteen.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Friday, October 11, 2024, members of the Palisades Park Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding allegations of the sexual assault of a juvenile that had occurred in the past. 

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives determined that the alleged assaults occurred in Fairview, New Jersey. Further investigation by Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit along with the Fairview Police Department determined that Wilmer Hernandez-Barrera, 32, of Cliffside Park, sexually assaulted the child on multiple occasions when the child was under the age of sixteen in Fairview, New Jersey.

     Accordingly, on Tuesday, Hernandez-Barrera was taken into custody at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Paramus, New Jersey, and formally charged with two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault; and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. 

     Hernandez-Barrera was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
