NEWTON, NJ.- A 54-year-old Newton, New Jersey, man, and an apparent child predator will remain detained pending trial after he was charged in late October for allegedly committing horrific sex crimes upon a preteen child, including sexual assault and producing child pornography in Newtown, New Jersey.

According to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray, on October 29, 2024, following an investigation by Detectives of the Sussex County Special Victims Unit and the Newton Police Department into alleged child sex crimes, Xavier D. Izquierdo, 54, of Newton, New Jersey, was taken into custody and jailed.

Izquierdo was formally charged with one count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; two counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child by causing or Permitting a Child to be Portrayed in a Sexually Suggestive Manner; one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Possession of Child Pornography; and one count of third-degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact.

Izquierdo Will Remain In Custody Pending Trial

Izquierdo has remained in custody since his initial October 2024 arrest. On November 20, 2024, during a pretrial detention hearing, Sussex County Superior Court Judge Robert M. Hanna ordered that he remain detained pending trial on the charges.

Due to the age of the child victim and the nature of the alleged crimes, the Prosecutor’s Office has not released any further information.

If convicted at trial, Izquierdo, when sentenced, would face a mandatory minimum of 25 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
