ALBANY, NY.- A 46-year-old Rotterdam man is facing up to 15 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty on Monday to a federal firearms violation.

On Monday, December 2, 2024, Jesse Taber, 46, of Rotterdam, New York, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman, during the plea hearing, Taber admitted that on December 26, 2023, he knowingly and unlawfully possessed a 12-gauge Stoeger Coach Gun shotgun inside his Rotterdam, New York home. Taber knew he was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction.

Following entering his guilty plea, a U.S. District Court accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for April 2, 2025, at which time Taber faces up to 15 years in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The actual term of imprisonment would be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge based on the seriousness of the offense and Taber’s prior criminal history.

U.S. Attorney Freedman commended the investigative work of the Rotterdam Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
