Maryland Man Charged For November’s Northwest D.C. Assault

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, a 42-year-old District Heights, Maryland, man was apprehended by Patrol Police Officers and charged in connection with an assault that occurred late last month in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., a victim reported to Police that while they were walking in the Unit Block of Massachusetts Avenue in Northwest, D.C., they were approached by a suspect from behind and was assaulted, causing the victim to fall to the ground and suffer minor injuries.
With assistance from the public, Detectives obtained video camera footage of the suspect and distributed the picture to D.C. Metropolitan Police Patrol Units throughout the District.
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Sixth District Patrol Officers spotted the suspect and arrested him. Accordingly, as a result of the investigation, Detectives formally charged Jovan Middleton, 42, of District Heights, Maryland, with Aggravated Assault.
Middleton was processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court.
