Commercial Township Man Charged With Child Enticement & Pornography

COMMERCIAL TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Today, December 13, 2024, a 29-year-old Commercial Township, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with multiple child sex crime offenses.
According to Cumberland County Jennifer Webb-McRae, on Friday, December 13, 2024, Michael A. Romig, 29, of Commercial Township, was taken into custody and formally charged with first-degree Production of Child Pornography; third-degree Possession of Child Pornography; and third-degree Imparing or Debauching the Morals of a Minor.
Romig was taken into custody this morning at his Doris Drive residence. Following being processed on the charges, Romig was remanded to the Cumberland County Jail pending future court proceedings in Cumberland County Superior Court in Bridgeton, New Jersey. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office intends to file a motion with the court to have Romig detained pending trial.
The charges stem from an investigation that began when Detectives of Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit were contacted by members of the Columbus, Ohio, Police Department regarding an individual residing in Cumberland County, New Jersey, who was allegedly soliciting and engaging in sharing child pornography with a ten-year-old girl over a social media platform.
Detectives Identify Romig As The Suspect
During the investigation, Detectives identified an IP address associated with the Doris Drive residence. Further investigation identified Romig as a suspect and learned that he had been communicating on Snapchat with multiple juvenile girls between the ages of ten and fifteen on several accounts.
If convicted at trial, Romig faces up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison and would be subject to parole supervision for life and would be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law registration requirements.
