Newton Woman Receives 3 Years In State Prison For Drug Distribution

NEWTON, NJ.- A 31-year-old Newton, New Jersey, woman learned that she would be spending the next three years in prison for selling a controlled dangerous substance, not once, but twice to an undercover New Jersey State Trooper.
On Friday, December 13, 2024, Dana Vail, 31, appeared in Sussex County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Michael C. Gaus to three years in New Jersey State Prison for her previously entered guilty plea to Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.
In handing down the sentence on Friday, Judge Gaus ordered that Vail submit a DNA sample, pay $2,185 in mandatory assessments and penalties, and receive no jail credit for the time she served in the Sussex County Jail. Vail previously pleaded guilty to second-degree Distribution of LSD.
According To The Prosecutor’s Office
According to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and charging documents filed with the court in January 2024, during an investigation into narcotics distribution, New Jersey State Police undercover Detectives conducted two undercover purchases of around 10,000 milligrams of LSD from Vail.
Following the undercover buy, Detectives obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Vail’s Newton residence. During the search, Detectives found additional quantities of LSD from inside the home.
