Man Charged With Killing Girlfriend Sunday Morning In Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Sunday, a 42-year-old Northwest, D.C. man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the alleged stabbing death of his 35-year-old girlfriend inside their Northwest, D.C. home.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at around 8:50 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to a 911 Emergency Call from a man who reported that he had killed his significant other inside their home on the 700 Block of Girard Street in Northwest, D.C.
Police Find Woman Dead
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Maria Magdalena Ayala Guardado, 35, having succumbed to multiple stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Service pronounced Ms. Guardado deceased at the scene.
The suspect, who remained at the scene, was identified as Mario Miguel Banegas Deras, 42, of Northwest, D.C., confessed to the murder and was taken into custody and transported to the Homicide Unit, where he was formally charged with second-degree Murder While Armed. Banegas Deras was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the D.C. Superior Court.
