ALBANY, NY.- On Monday, December 16, 2024, Mark Tremblay, 34, of Rensselaer, New York, was taken into custody and jailed after being charged by a federal criminal complaint for the alleged horrific sexual abuse of a toddler last month.

According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman, Tremblay was taken into custody by federal agents and federally charged with the Sexual Exploitation of a Child. On Monday, Tremblay appeared in the U.S. District for the Northern District of New York for his first appearance and was ordered detained by U.S. Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel.

According To Charging Information Filed In The Complaint

According to charging information filed in the criminal complaint, on or about November 13, 2024, Tremblay used a child born in 2023, to engage in the sexual abuse of the child for the purpose of creating digital images of child pornography. Tremblay then distributed the produced digital images to another person with whom he was sharing child pornography with, over the internet.

If convicted at trial, Tremblay faces a mandatory minimum of fifteen years and up to 30 years in federal prison, at least five years and up to life of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Tremblay, upon release from prison, would be required to register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney Freedman commended the investigative work of Homeland Security Investigations and the New York State Police. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
