Detectives Charge Man For August’s Southeast D.C. Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended a 26-year-old man wanted in connection with the August 19, 2024, double shooting that killed one and left another hospitalized.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, August 19, 2024, shortly before 8:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of gunfire on the 3000 Block of Stanton Road in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the men, identified as Vonte Martin, 19, of Southeast, D.C., was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other man was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since recovered.
Suspect Apprehended On Wednesday
Following an investigation, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Tyquan Jennings, 26, and transported him to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Branch, where he was charged, according to a D.C. Superior Court warrant with second-degree Murder While Armed.
Jennings was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court.
