WILLINGBORO, NJ.- On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, following a two-month trial in Burlington County Superior Court, a jury convicted two Pemberton Township, New Jersey, men in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Willingboro High School Senior in April 2021.

According to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw, following the trial, the jury deliberated for just around three hours before convicting Kavon Carter, 27, and Sylas Young, 22, of first-degree Murder; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; first-degree Gang Criminality; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Carter was additionally convicted of first-degree Promoting Organized Street Crime; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

Carter And Young Face Life In Prison

Following the jury returning their findings on Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Gerard H. Breland accepted the verdict, filed it with the court, and scheduled sentencing for February 7, 2025, at which time Carter and Young face up to life in New Jersey State Prison. Both Carter and Young will remain detained in the Burlington County Jail pending sentencing, at which time both men will be transferred to the custody of the New Jersey Department of Corrections.

Investigation Began After Police Find Teen Victim

The conviction stems from an investigation that began on April 22, 2021, when, at around 11:30 p.m., members of the Willingboro Township Police Department responded to a report of gunfire on Barrington Lane in the Barrington Park section of the Township.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found Yahsinn Robinson, 18, a senior at Willingboro High School, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Robinson was pronounced at the scene.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives determined that Carter and Young and their associates from Pemberton Township were involved in a long-running dispute with certain individuals residing in the Barrington Park section of Willingboro Township. Detectives further determined that the shooting was an escalation of the ongoing conflict. Mr. Robinson was returning home from his part-time job when he was fatally gunned down by Carter and Young. The investigation further revealed that Mr. Robinson had no involvement with the ongoing dispute.
