Former Tampa Man Sentenced For Transporting Child To Engage In Sex Acts

ERIE, PA.- A 49-year-old convicted child predator and former resident of Tampa, Florida, was sentenced on Tuesday to two decades in federal prison for sex crimes against a 14-year-old girl, including abducting and transporting the girl across state lines to engage in illegal sexual activity.
On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Thomas Edward Grossman, III, 49, formerly of Tampa, Florida, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Paradise Baxter to 240 months in federal prison, to be immediately followed by ten years of supervised release for his conviction of Transportation of a Minor to Engage in Illegal Sexual Activity, and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
During Tuesday’s hearing, in addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Baxter ordered Grossman to pay $3,000 in restitution to his victim and a $5,200 special assessment fee.

According to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan and charging documents filed with the court, Grossman transported a 14-year-old girl from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to West Virginia to have the child engage in criminal sexual activity. Grossman also enticed, coerced, and persuaded a child to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing child pornography and enticed that child to engage in criminal sexual conduct.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
