JEFFERSON, NJ.- Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll reported that a 31-year-old Jefferson Township, New Jersey man has been sentenced to New Jersey State Prison in connection with the possession of child sexual abuse material.
On Friday, December 13, 2024, Richard Kattermann, 31, of Jefferson Township, appeared in Morris County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Claudia Jones to three years in State Prison for his previously entered guilty plea.
Following an internet child pornography investigation, on February 8, 2024, Kattermann was taken into custody and charged with child pornography offenses. On September 9, 2024, Kattermann appeared in Superior Court and pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child for Possession of Child Pornography.
Friday’s Prison Sentence Stems From An Investigation
The guilty plea and Friday’s prison sentence stem from the investigation that began when the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding a digital media file depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children that was uploaded to the online social media platform Discord.
During the ensuing investigation, Task Force Detectives identified an IP address in Jefferson Township, New Jersey, and Kattermann was eventually identified as residing at the address.Â
