Greenbrier County Man Sentenced For Being A Felon In Possession Of Firearm

BECKLEY, W.VA.- On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Wilbur Curtis Arnold, Jr., 59, of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Frank W. Volk to 46 months in federal prison, immediately followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and charging documents filed in the District Court, on April 29, 2024, members of the Greenbrier Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force found a Winchester .22-caliber rifle inside Arnold’s home while arresting him on an outstanding warrant.
Arnold Admits Stolen Gun Belongs To Him
During his arrest, Arnold told Police Officers that the rifle belonged to him. Subsequent investigation uncovered that the .22-caliber rifle had been reported stolen on June 12, 2012.
Further investigation revealed that on June 30, 2023, Arnold brought a Rock Island Armory .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun to a White Sulphur Springs business, where he sold the firearm for $300. Arnold supplied his identification and signed a purchase agreement for the sale of the gun.
In handing down the sentence on Thursday, Judge Volk noted Arnold’s extensive prior criminal history, including convictions for three counts of domestic battery, violation of a protective order, battery, assault, and multiple controlled substances offenses, including one in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia in March 2016.
