Morris Plains Woman Charged For Bilking Her Employer Out Of $1 Million

SPRINGFIELD, NJ.- On Monday, December 23, 2024, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel reported that following an extensive and thorough financial records investigation, a 43-year-old Morris Plains, New Jersey, woman was taken into custody and charged with a $1 million theft scheme from her former Springfield, New Jersey employer.

     Martinia Heath, 43, of Morris Plains, was formally charged with one count of second-degree Theft by Deception; one count of second-degree Criminal Impersonation; and one count of each third-degree and fourth-degree Forgery. Heath was processed on the charges and was released on a complaint summons pending her first appearance which has been scheduled for January 30, 2025, in Union County Central Judicial Processing Court in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Investigation Uncovers $1 Million Theft

     The charges stem from an investigation initiated by a referral from Corner Property Management of Springfield. A subsequent investigation led by Detective Sergeant Alex Lopez of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Special Prosecutions Unit uncovered that while employed as an on-site Property Manager at the Mountain Club Condominium complex located in Morris County.

     During her employment, Heath engaged in an elaborate scheme to defraud the company of corporate funds. The investigation determined that Heath falsified records and correspondence, including fabricated invoices, resulting in a financial loss to Corner Property Management in excess of $1 million beginning in 2019 and lasting through 2023.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
