Toms River Man Found Dead Sunday Afternoon In Shelter Cove Park

TOMS RIVER, NJ.- The Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing the investigation surrounding the death of a 52-year-old Toms River, New Jersey, man whose lifeless body was found Sunday afternoon in Shelter Cove Park in Toms River, New Jersey.

     According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, shortly after 3:00 p.m., members of the Toms River Township Police Department responded to Shelter Cove Park in the Township on a report of a deceased man found in the water across from the coastal marsh area in the park.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found the lifeless body of a man, later identified as Deane Labranche, 52, a resident of Toms River, floating in the water. The body of Mr. Labranche was removed from the water and transported to Community Medical Center pending an autopsy.

     “While this death is currently under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Toms River Township Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, there does not appear, at this time, to be any foul play involved,” Prosecutor Billhimer stated.
