Police Charge Teens For January 7th Northeast D.C. Armed Carjacking

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Metropolitan Police Department charged a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy in connection with Tuesday’s January 7, 2025, mid-day armed carjacking in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, shortly after 12:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to the 700 Block of Kenilworth Terrace in Northeast, D.C., on a report of a robbery.
Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by the victim that two suspects approached him after he exited his vehicle. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and demanded his money and car keys. The victim complied, and the suspects fled the scene.
Detectives identified the suspects based on the victim’s description and footage from area surveillance cameras. Accordingly, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Detectives arrested a 16-year-old Northeast, D.C. boy and a 15-year-old Southeast, D.C. boy and formally charged both with Armed Robbery; Armed Carjacking; Possession of an Unregistered Firearm; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition; and Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine.
Both teens were processed on the charges and were remanded into protective custody pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Family Law Divison.
