BOSTON, MA.- A 41-year-old Taunton, Massachusetts, man will be spending the next four years in federal prison after he was sentenced on Wednesday for his part in a nearly year-long oxycodone conspiracy scheme that supplied oxycodone pills to street dealers for re-distribution to individuals suffering from opioid addictions.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, John Campbell, 41, of Taunton, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper to 48 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his guilty plea to a federal narcotics violation.

In August 2023, a Federal Grand Jury for the District of Massachusetts returned an indictment against Campbell. In September 2024, Campbell pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute and to Possess with Intent to Distribute Oxycodone Pillis. In addition to the term of imprisonment and supervised release, Judge Casper ordered Campbell to pay a fine in the amount of $25,000.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

According to U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy and documents filed with the District Court, beginning around July 2022 and lasting through June 2023, Campbell distributed oxycodone pills to others for further re-distribution. Campbell obtained the pills from his co-conspirator and co-defendant, Kenneth Veiga.

The number of oxycodone pills that were distributed ranged from hundreds to more than 1,000 on several occasions. Campbell also sold oxycodone pills to an uncover agent on four occasions. A subsequent laboratory analysis of pills sold to the agent confirmed the pills contained oxycodone. During a court-authorized federal wiretap, Campbell was overheard discussing oxycodone prices and quantities on telephone calls and text messages.

On July 12, 2023, law enforcement obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Campbell’s Taunton, Massachusetts residence. During the search, investigators located and seized evidence of drug trafficking activities, including a digital scale and packaging rubber bands.

Campbell’s co-defendant, Veiga, pleaded guilty to his role in the conspiracy and, in July 2024, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.
