Beckley Man & Woman Heading To Prison For Narcotics Distribution

CHARLESTON, W.VA.- On Tuesday, a Beckley, West Virginia, couple learned that they would be spending at least the next four years apart after the two were sentenced to federal prison for selling deadly fentanyl to a confidential informant.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Michael Dwayne Kelly, II, 35, of Beckley, West Virginia, and Savannah Elizabeth Todd, 32, also of Beckley, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and were sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Frank W. Volk respectively for their previously entered guilty pleas for federal narcotics offenses.
Judge Volk sentenced Kelly to a term of 58 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Controlled Substances, fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin.
Judge Volk sentenced Todd to a term of 46 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Controlled Substances, fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and charging documents filed with the District Court, on January 27, 2022, Kelly sold around 6.9 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant for $700 at a Beckley, West Virginia residence, during a controlled buy under the observation of law enforcement investigators. During his plea allocution, Kelly admitted in court to selling the fentanyl to the informant on January 27th and further admitted to selling an additional 28 grams of fentanyl to the confidential informant at a Beckley, West Virginia residence on February 10, 2022.
On February 8, 2022, Todd sold around 3.5 grams of fentanyl for $550 to a confidential informant at the same Beckley, West Virginia residence during a controlled buy under the observation of law enforcement investigators.
Investigators Search Kelly’s And Todd’s Home
Following the controlled buys, on February 17, 2022, investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Beckley, West Virginia residence. During the search, investigators found both Kelly and Todd inside the home, where both of them were taken into custody.
A search of the house resulted in investigators uncovering and seizing 189 grams of fentanyl, 56 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of heroin, a Ruger .380-caliber handgun, a Taurus .22-caliber handgun, a Sig Sauer .45-caliber handgun, a Glock .380-caliber handgun, and $13,046 in U.S. currency in denominations consistent with narcotics sales.
During their plea allocations, Kelly and Todd both further admitted that they each intended to distribute the narcotics that were seized in the Southern District of West Virginia, specifically in and around the Beckley, West Virginia, area.
U.S. Attorney Thompson commended the investigative work of federal, local, and state law enforcement agencies for the investigation leading to the successful prosecutions of Kelly and Todd.
