HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- On Tuesday, a 35-year-old Huntington, West Virginia, man learned that he may be spending the next 20 years of his life in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing deadly fentanyl and methamphetamine in the Southern District of West Virginia.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Curtis Lavall Capers, 35, of Huntington, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to the Distribution of Fentanyl and a Substance Containing Methamphetamine.
Capers Scheduled For Sentencing
Following entering his guilty plea during Tuesday’s federal court hearing, Judge Chambers scheduled sentencing for May 12, 2025, at which time Capers faces up to 20 years in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and charging documents filed with the District Court, on December 15, 2022, Capers sold quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine to a confidential informant at a 7th Avenue residence in Huntington, West Virginia, during a controlled buy under the observation of federal law enforcement investigators.
During Tuesday’s plea allocution, Capers admitted to selling the illicit narcotics to the confidential and to arranging the sale with the informant beforehand.
U.S. Attorney Thompson commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, which led to Capers’ successful prosecution.
