Morrisville Man Heading To Prison For Federal Firearms Charge

BURLINGTON, VT.- On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Jordan Phelps, 36, of Morrisville, Vermont, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss to 18 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for his previously entered guilty plea to a federal firearms violation.
Phelps previously appeared in federal court in Burlington, Vermont, and pleaded guilty to being an Unlawful User of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance “Crack Cocaine” in Possession of a Firearm.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael P. Drescher and charging information filed with the District Court, on March 11, 2024, Phelps called the Morristown Police Department on four separate occasions and threatened to go to a Police Officer’s home. The threatening phone calls were recorded, and an investigation was launched into Phelps.
The investigation determined that Phelps sought to go to the Police Officer’s home in response to what Phelps thought was unlawful surveillance of his activities.
On March 13, 2024, law enforcement investigators obtained and executed a state court-authorized search warrant at Phelps’ residence. During the search, investigators located and seized a loaded Marlin 30-30 caliber rifle from Phelps’ bedroom. Further investigation uncovered that Phelps was an unlawful user of crack cocaine, which would prevent him from possessing a firearm.
Acting U.S. Attorney Drescher commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Morristown Police Department, the Stowe Police Department, the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, and the Vermont State Police for the successful prosecution of Phelps.
