BOSTON, MA.- A 32-year-old member of the violent Boston-based street gang learned he is potentially facing up to 60 years in federal prison after pleading guilty last Tuesday to multiple federal narcotics offenses.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Avery Lewis, also known as “Wave,” 32, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun to two counts of Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine; and one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.
Following entering his guilty plea last Tuesday, Judge Joun accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for May 13, 2025, at which time Lewis faces on each count up to 20 years in federal prison, at least three years, and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $1 million fine. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offenses and Lewis’ prior criminal history.
Lewis was one of ten H-Block gang members and associates charged in August 2024 following a years-long investigation into H-Block’s gang-related activities beginning in 2021 in response to an uptick in gang drug trafficking, shootings, and violence. During the investigation, over 500 grams of cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl, as well as over 20,000 doses of drug-laced paper, were seized by investigators.
According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and charging information filed with the District Court, the H-Block street gang is one of the most feared and influential city-wide gangs in Boston, Massachusetts. Initially formed in the 1980s as the Humboldt Raiders in the Roxbury section of Boston, the gang re-emerged in the 2000s as H-Block.
Current members of H-Block have a history of violent confrontations with law enforcement officers, including an incident in 2015 when a member shot a Boston Police Officer at point-blank range without warning or provocation.
Lewis was a long-time H-Block gang member and daily street-level drug dealer with a regular daily customer base. During the course of the investigation, Lewis sold cocaine to an undercover investigator on multiple occasions and coordinated other drug trafficking activities with fellow H-Block gang members.
Lewis has a lengthy criminal history dating back to a 2013 conviction for unlawfully possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number and a 2017 conviction for possessing 86 bags of cocaine. Lewis is the first of the ten defendants to plead guilty in this case.
