SYRACUSE, NY.- On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Richard Bradley, 36, of Syracuse, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Court Judge Glenn T. Suddaby to being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.

According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman and statements made in court, Bradley admitted that on September 9, 2024, he possessed a loaded rifle in his vehicle, which was parked at an East Syracuse, New York gas station. While in his vehicle, Bradley inadvertently discharged the rifle several times, but did not injure anyone with the gunfire.

Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction from owning or possessing a firearm and ammunition. Bradley knew on September 9, 2024, that he was a prohibited person due to his prior felony conviction for criminal mischief.

Bradley Faces Up To 15 Years In Federal Prison

Following entering his guilty plea during Tuesday’s plea hearing, Judge Suddaby accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for June 10, 2025, at which time Bradley faces up to 15 years in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine, or both. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Bradley’s prior criminal history.

U.S. Attorney Freedman commended the investigative work of the Manlius Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation, which led to Bradley’s guilty plea.
