HARTFORD, CT.- A 24-year-old Hartford, Connecticut man will be spending nearly the next four years after being sentenced on Monday for possessing and discharging a firearm in the City of Hartford.

On Monday, February 3, 2025, Osiris Muhammad, 24, of Hartford, Connecticut, appeared in the District Court for the District of Connecticut and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Sarala V. Nagala to 46 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm. Muhammad previously appeared in federal court on June 28, 2024, and pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Marc H. Silverman and documents filed with the court, shortly after midnight on January 26, 2024, Muhammad, while armed with a handgun, fired multiple shots at an individual in the area of Belden Street and Albany Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut.

On January 28, 2024, members of the Hartford Police Department spotted Muhammad at a liquor store on Albany Avenue. After a brief foot pursuit, Muhammad was apprehended and taken into custody. During the arrest, Police Officers found him in possession of a Ruger 9mm semi-automatic pistol. A subsequent ballistic analysis linked the firearm to the shell casings collected at the shooting the day before.

Federal prohibits a person previously convicted of a felony from owning or possessing a firearm and ammunition. Muhammad knew he was a prohibited person when he possessed the firearm due to his prior conviction for first-degree robbery.

Acting U.S. Attorney Silverman commended the investigative work of the Hartford Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation, which led to the successful prosecution of Muhammad.
