Paterson Man Charged For Fatal Running Down A Man & Fleeing The Scene

PATERSON, NJ.- Following an investigation, on Monday, February 3, 2025, a 21-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally running down a 59-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man Monday morning in the City of Paterson and fleeing the scene, leaving the man lying in the roadway.

     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Monday, February 3, 2025, shortly before 9:00 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Alabama and Trenton Avenues in the City of Paterson.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 59-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man, having sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a Sport Utility Vehicle that fled the scene. The man was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Detectives Identify Adams As The Driver

     During a swift-moving investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigation Unit and the Paterson Police Department, Detectives, after interviewing witnesses at the scene, were able to determine that a green Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by Shakim Adams struck the man and fled the scene. 

     Later on Monday, Adams was located and taken into custody and formally charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Adams was processed on the charge and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Adams pending trial.
