El Salvador Illegal Immigrant Sentenced For Illegal Reentry Into The U.S.

BOSTON, MA.- A 38-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador, who had been previously removed from the United States five times, will be spending the next four months in federal prison and will face immediate deportation back to El Salvador after being sentenced on Tuesday for illegally reentering the United States for a sixth time.
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Benancio Martinez-Diaz, 38, an El Salvadoran national residing in Chelsea, Massachusetts, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin to 4 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea.
According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, in October 2024, Martinez-Diaz appeared in federal court in Boston, Massachusetts, and pleaded guilty to one count of Unlawful Reentry by a Previously Deported Alien. In July 2024, Martinez-Diaz was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on the charge.
According to the charging information unsealed in the indictment, between 2006 and 2014, Martinez-Diaz was removed from the United States on five separate occasions. He was most recently removed around May 30, 2014. On October 8, 2023, Martinez-Diaz was arrested on Massachusetts state charges, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified, and a federal immigration detainer was lodged.
