ABINGDON, VA.- Last week, Troy Alexander Stamper, III, 34, of Ivanhoe, Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia and was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for his previously entered guilty plea to federal narcotics and firearms offenses. It is unclear whether Stamper was additionally sentenced to a term of supervised release.

In October 2024, Stamper appeared in federal court in Abingdon, Virginia, and pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine; and one count of being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Zachary T. Lee, on June 23, 2023, members of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Fries, Virginia, to locate a wanted suspect. Upon arriving at the location, Sheriff’s Deputies were informed by witnesses that the wanted suspect and Stamper fled upon seeing Sheriff’s Deputies arriving. In addition, witnesses told Deputies that Stamper had a pistol.

The suspect wanted by the Deputies was subsequently located hiding underneath the porch of the residence and told Deputies that Stamper had stashed a duffel bag and pistol underneath the porch of the residence.

Sheriff’s Deputies found the duffel bag, which contained a loaded semi-automatic 9mm pistol, 87 grams of methamphetamine, .873 grams of fentanyl, and four oxycodone tablets. A short time later, Stamper was apprehended and, during questioning, admitted to Deputies that the duffel bag and its contents belonged to him.

Acting U.S. Attorney Lee commended the investigative work of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation that led to Stamper’s successful prosecution.
