Burlington Man Sentenced For Shooting In Burlington’s Old North End

BURLINGTON, VT.- On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Loren Senna, 41, of Burlington, Vermont, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss to 120 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine; and being a Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition, Convicted Felon.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael P. Drescher and charging documents filed with the District Court, on March 19, 2021, while chasing another vehicle in the Old North End of Burlington, Vermont, Senna leaned out the driver’s side window of a Jeep he was driving and fired multiple rounds from a semi-automatic rifle-style handgun in a densely populated area.
Although the rounds struck multiple residences, and although there were many pedestrians present at the time of the shooting, no one was struck by the gunfire.
Senna Flees Rhe Area Crashing Into Police Car
Senna then sped through Burlington, briefly tried to hide in a parking lot, and then crashed into an occupied Burlington Police Department-marked vehicle while attempting to escape from the parking lot. Senna then subsequently abandoned the Jeep, fleeing on foot, tossing the semi-automatic pistol and a loaded handgun into an empty railcar.
A short time later, Senna was pulled over in South Burlington, Vermont, driving a truck that belonged to a friend. During the traffic stop, Police Officers located and seized 200 grams of crack cocaine, over 20 grams of powdered cocaine, and over four grams of a fentanyl, heroin mixture. In addition, a blue backpack was found on the passenger’s side floor of the truck, Police Officers uncovered another loaded handgun. While being taken into custody, Police Officers found $5,812 in U.S. currency and a 9mm bullet in Senna’s pockets.
Acting U.S. Attorney Drescher stated, “The defendant’s shooting and subsequent flight from law enforcement on the evening of March 19, 2021, were shocking and extraordinarily dangerous. I commend our law enforcement partners for their bravery and their quick, collaborative, focused investigative work that night to apprehend the shooter without injury to the public, the officers involved, or to the defendant.” Specifically, the Acting U.S. Attorney thanked the Burlington Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the South Burlington Police Department for their contributions to this case.
