NEWARK, NJ.- Last Thursday, a 38-year-old Union County, New Jersey, man learned he would be spending the next twelve years in federal prison after being sentenced for selling firearms and cocaine to an undercover law enforcement investigator in 2021 and 2022.
On Thursday, March 6, 2024, Dominick Montgomery, 38, of Plainfield, New Jersey, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Georgette Castner to 144 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty pleas to federal narcotics and firearms offenses.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to U.S. Attorney John Giordano and charging documents filed with the District Court, during an investigation into narcotics trafficking in the Somerset County and Middlesex County area, law enforcement investigators were able to identify Montgomery as a narcotics distributor operating in the two-county area.
From October 27, 2021, through January 24, 2022, Montgomery sold eight firearms, quantities of cocaine, and fentanyl to an undercover investigator in exchange for money.
During the last sale, on January 24, 2022, Montgomery sold the undercover investigator a quantity of cocaine and three firearms in exchange for $6,750. Following that sale, on February 2, 2022, members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives arrested Montgomery. During his arrest, law enforcement investigators found Montgomery in possession of a Smith & Wesson pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition.

U.S. Attorney Giordano commended the investigative work of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation, which led to the successful prosecution of Montgomery.
