ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- On Thursday, March 13, 2025, an Atlantic County Superior Court Jury found a 29-year-old Galloway Township, New Jersey, man guilty on all counts of the indictment in connection with the execution-style shooting death of a 45-year-old Demond Tally of Atlantic City, New Jersey, just a short distance away from the home of the now Atlantic City’s mayor, Marty Smalls, during the early morning hours of February 10, 2019.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, following a multi-week trial in Atlantic County Superior Court before Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor, the jury deliberated less than a day before finding Shamar Scott, 29, guilty of first-degree Murder; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. The jury additionally found Scott guilty of Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

Judge Taylor Schedules Sentencing For May 2025

Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, Judge Taylor accepted the jury’s verdict and scheduled sentencing for May 5, 2025. At that time, Scott faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison. Scott may also face an additional consecutive term of ten years in New Jersey State Prison for the conviction on the second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

The conviction stems from an investigation led by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department into the targeted shooting death of Mr. Tally after he left the home of the now-Atlantic City Mayor Marty Smalls as he was walking along Presbyterian Avenue in Atlantic City.

Following the investigation, Scott was taken into custody and charged in April 2021, along with his co-defendants, Steven Martinez and Deshawn Hose, whose charges remain pending trial.
