Metropolitan Police Charge Man With Property Damage & Assaulting Officers

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, March 13, 2025, a 37-year-old man was taken into custody and charged in connection with an incident involving property damage and assaulting Police Officers while they were attempting to arrest him.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, shortly after 8:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to a report of a man acting erratic and smashing things on the 3100 Block of Mount Pleasant Street in Northwest, D.C.
Police Officers Learn Of Property Damage
Upon arrival, Police Officers learned from witnesses that a man, later identified as Jose Lemus. 37, while armed with a metal pole, began smashing property and then fled the scene.
Lemus Assaults Police Officers During Arrest
While patrolling in the area and based on a description provided by witnesses, Police Officers spotted Lemus. When Police Officers approached and began to question him in regards to damaging the property, he assaulted the Police Officers, who were able to successfully restrain Lemus and place him under arrest.
Accordingly, following being taken into custody, Lemus was formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Destruction of Property; two counts of Assault on a Police Officer; and Failure to Appear. Lemus was processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
