Police Charge Teen As An Adult In September 2023, Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has charged a 17-year-old Southeast, D.C., teen for the September 2023 Southeast shooting death of a 15-year-old boy.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at around 6:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to reports of gunfire on the 4200 Block of 4th Street in Southeast, D.C.

Police Find Teen Shot Dead On Street

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a teen, later identified as Zyion Turner, 15, of Southeast, D.C., unresponsive from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded, and despite life-saving efforts, the teen was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch were able to identify the shooter as a 17-year-old Southeast, D.C. male and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

     On Friday, March 21, 2025, Police located Navar Rogers, 17, of Southeast, D.C. Rogers was taken into custody pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant and formally charged as an adult with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed.

     Rogers was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
