3 Teens Charged In March 27th Columbia Heights Shootout

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department arrested and charged two 17-year-old juvenile males and a 16-year-old juvenile male in connection with a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in the upscale neighborhood of Columbia Heights in Northwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to reports of a shooting on the 1000 Block of Columbia Road in Northwest, D.C.

Police Officers Find Teen Injured

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 17-year-old boy suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The teen was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

     The initial investigation by responding Police Officers and Detectives, after interviewing witnesses, including the injured teen, quickly determined that the shooting had occurred in an alley in the rear of the 1400 Block of Girard Street in Northwest, D.C. Police Officers were able to locate evidence of a shooting crime scene at that location.

Video Footage Shows Suspects And Injured Teen Involved In Shootout

     A description of the suspects provided by witnesses was broadcast to area Patrol Officers, and a short time later, Police Officers located and arrested both suspects. Police Officers and Detectives on the scene, with the help of investigators inside the Metropolitan Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center, located a video of the shooting crime scene, which depicted both suspects and the injured teen involved in an armed confrontation. Handguns belonging to one of the suspects and the shooting victim were recovered at the scene.

     Accordingly, on Thursday evening, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, both of Northwest, D.C., were formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; Endangerment with a Firearm; Carrying a Handgun Without a License; and Resisting Arrest. The 17-year-old was additionally charged with Unlawful Discarding of a Firearm.

     The shooting victim, a 17-year-old Southeast, D.C. boy, was arrested and formally charged with Carrying a Handgun Without a License; and Unlawful Discarding of a Firearm. 

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: the charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and  as in adult criminal cases, a juvenile defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
