WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, April 10, 2025, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith reported that Detectives have charged a 36-year-old man in connection with three separate stabbing incidents that occurred in late February and March 2025 in Southeast, D.C.

The first incident occurred on Friday, February 21, 2025, when, just before 4:00 a.m., the victim was waiting at the bus stop at the corner of 18th Street and Minnesota Avenue in Southeast, D.C., when the suspect approached them and swung a machete at them striking them with the weapon. The victim was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening wound.

The second incident occurred on Sunday, March 23, 2025, when shortly after 8:00 a.m., an unidentified male suspect approached the victim, who was at the corner of 19th Street and Minnesota Avenue in Southeast, D.C. The suspect then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of multiple non-life-threatening puncture wounds.

The third incident occurred on Saturday, March 26, 2025, when shortly after 7:15 a.m., the victim and the suspect were involved in an altercation within the 2200 Block of Minnesota Avenue in Southeast, D.C. The altercation quickly turned violent when the suspect pulled out a knife, stabbed the victim, and then fled the area. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening stab wound.

Detectives Identify Gregory As The Stabbing Suspect

During an extensive and swift-moving investigation, Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department were able to identify the suspect as James Gregory, 36, with no fixed address, as the individual responsible for the stabbings of the three victims, and an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

Accordingly, Gregory was located in the custody of the Prince Georges’ County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Gregory was extradited to Washington, D.C., where he was formally charged with three counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

Gregory was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
