Police Charge Southwest D.C. Man In March 2025 Southeast Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Sunday, April 13, 2025, a 39-year-old Southwest, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting that occurred during the evening hours of March 11, 2025, in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, shortly before 7:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Engine House 33, located on Atlantic Street in Southeast D.C., after receiving a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

     Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers learned that the man was struck by gunfire in the Unit Block of Mississippi Avenue in Southeast, D.C. The man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Detectives Identify Smith As The Shooter

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives recovered area video surveillance footage, which led to the suspect being identified as Davone Darnell Smith, 39, of Southwest, D.C. On Sunday, April 13, 2025, Smith was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

     Smith was processed on the charge and was remanded to the DC Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
