Guatemalan Man Sentenced For Illegally Reentering The U.S.

SYRACUSE, NY.- On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Enrique Diaz-Perez, 38, a Guatemalan national residing illegally in Syracuse, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for his guilty plea to Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.
In addition to the 14-month federal prison sentence, Diaz-Perez was sentenced to a consecutive four-month term for violating the terms of his supervised release on a prior federal conviction.
According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel Hanlon and statements made in the District Court, as part of his 2024 guilty plea, Diaz-Perez admitted that he was previously removed from the United States in 2009 following his Massachusetts conviction for assault with a dangerous weapon. Diaz-Perez further admitted that he was again removed from the United States in February 2024 following his conviction in federal court in Syracuse, New York, for illegal reentry.
After being removed from the United States in February 2024, federal agents located Diaz-Perez on August 27, 2024, illegally in Syracuse, New York, and arrested him. At that time, Diaz-Perez was illegally working in Little Falls, New York.
