Sicklerville Man Charged For Stabbing Police Officer Late Sunday Afternoon

CAMDEN, NJ.- On Sunday, a 38-year-old Sicklerville, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with stabbing a Camden County Police Officer late yesterday afternoon inside a Camden, New Jersey business.

     According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, shortly before 6:00 p.m., a Camden County Police Officer was conducting a business check in the area of Broadway and Chestnut Street in the City of Camden, when he was stabbed in an unprovoked attack.

     The Police Officer was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital for treatment, and the Officer remains hospitalized and has been listed in critical but stable condition.

     The suspect, identified as Richard Dennis, 38, of Sicklerville, New Jersey, was apprehended a short time later in the area of South 7th Street and Kaighn Avenue in the City of Camden.

     As a result of the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Camden County Police Department formally charged Dennis with one count of first-degree Attempted Murder; third-degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon; third-degree Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

     Dennis was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending future court proceedings in Camden County Superior Court in Camden, New Jersey. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office intends to file a motion with the court to have Dennis detained pending trial.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
