Hardy County Man Found Guilty Of Unlawfully Possessing Firearms

ELKINS, W.VA.- On Thursday, February 27, 2025, a federal jury for the Northern District of West Virginia found James Douglas Lambert, 36, of Moorefield, West Virginia, guilty of two counts of being a Prohibited Person Unlawfully in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.
Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Thomas S. Kleeh accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for a time and date to be determined by the District Court. When sentenced, Lambert faces up to 15 years in federal prison on each count, at least three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard and evidence presented at trial, the jury heard testimony that members of the West Virginia State Police, acting on a tip, visited Lambert’s Moorefield home. During a search of the residence, State Troopers found and seized seven firearms. On a separate date, Lambert was taken into custody for brandishing a gun, which led to the recovery of an additional firearm.
Federal law prohibits a person previously convicted of a felony from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition. Lambert knew when he possessed the firearms on the two separate occasions, he was prohibited from possessing the firearms due to his prior felony convictions for domestic battery, breaking and entering, and escape.
