LODI, NJ.- On Thursday, a 26-year-old Lodi, New Jersey man was taken into custody and jailed after being additionally charged following a continuing investigation into the fatal drug overdose of a 62-year-old Lodi, New Jersey man that occurred in April 2024 inside the man’s home.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, as first reported on Saturday, April 6, 2024, members of the Lodi Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a man unresponsive in the bedroom of a Lodi, New Jersey home. Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found a man, later identified as James White, 62, of Lodi, having succumbed to an apparent fatal drug overdose. Mr. White was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police Officers Find Evidence Of Drug Activity

Responding Police Officers found evidence of illicit narcotics activity. During the initial investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force and the Lodi Police Department uncovered that Randy Lantigua, 26, of Lodi, New Jersey, distributed narcotics to Mr. White. As a result of the initial investigation, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Lantigua was taken into custody in Lodi and charged with five counts of narcotics offenses.

During the months-long investigation and following the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office receiving the toxicology results, Detectives of the Bergen County Narcotics Task Force and the Lodi Police Department determined that the controlled dangerous substance supplied by Lantigua contained fentanyl and xylazine that resulted in the death of Mr. White.

Accordingly, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Detectives arrested Lantigua in Lodi, New Jersey, and formally charged him with one count of first-degree Strict Liability for a Drug-Induced Death. Lantigua was processed on the charge and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
