Greenbrier County Man Sentenced For Federal Firearms Charge

BECKLEY, W.VA.- On Monday, March 3, 2025, Grover D. Jordan, 57, of Charmco, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Frank W. Volk to 37 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release his previously entered guilty plea to being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston and charging documents filed with the District Court, on January 18, 2023, members of the Fayetteville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Jordan.
During the traffic stop, Police Officers found and seized a Taurus .45-caliber handgun, a .35mm pistol, and a Baretta .32-caliber handgun with a defaced serial number.
Jordan Admits Guilt
During his plea allocution, Jordan admitted that he possessed a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver that was discovered by law enforcement during a subsequent traffic stop on August 20, 2023, on a motorcycle he was operating in Charmco, West Virginia. Jordan further admitted that he possessed a Dupont electric generator, which is identified as an explosive material under federal law, during the traffic stop.
Federal prohibits a person previously convicted of a felony from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition. Jordan knew he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to his prior felony convictions for two counts of wanton endangerment in Raleigh County Circuit Court in March 2019. Jordan has an extensive criminal history also, including numerous other convictions for grand larceny, domestic battery, driving under the influence, and possession of controlled substances.

Acting U.S. Attorney Johnston commended the investigative work of the Fayetteville Police Department, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the successful prosecution of Jordan.
