Police Charge Man May 2024 Shots Fired Incident

D.C. Police Charge Northwest D.C. Man For Northeast D.C. Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- Last Thursday, following a traffic stop, a 31-year-old Northwest, D.C. man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred last May in Northeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, May 2, 2024, shortly before 2:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of gunfire on the 900 Block of F Street in Northeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that a suspect fired a handgun and fled the scene. Police Officers were unable to locate a victim or property damage.

Police Link Phoenix To Shooting

     On Thursday, March 6, 2025, Joe Lewis Phoenix, 34, of Northwest, D.C., was stopped for a traffic violation. During the investigation, Police Officers established probable cause linking Phoenix to the May 2, 2024 shooting and placed him under arrest. Following being taken into custody and based on the Detectives’ investigation into the shooting, Phoenix was formally charged with Endangerment with a Firearm; and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm.

     Phoenix was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
