Teen Charged In Saturday Night Fatal Crash In Toms River, New Jersey

TOMS RIVER, NJ.- Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer reported that on Friday, March 7, 2025, a juvenile teen was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a series of incidents that unfolded during the evening hours on Friday in Toms River, New Jersey.

     The teen was formally charged with two counts of Aggravated Manslaughter; four counts of Aggravated Assault Causing Bodily Injury while Eluding; two counts of Death By Auto; two counts of Causing Death While Driving Unlicensed; two counts of Causing Injury While Driving Unlicensed; two counts of Aggravated Assault Manifesting Extreme Indifference to the Value of Human Life, Eluding; and four counts of Assault by Auto.

     The teen was processed on the charges at the Toms River Township Police Department and was remanded to the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center, pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court, Family Court Division in Toms River, New Jersey.

Crash Kills Two And Critical Injures Two

     The charges result from an investigation that unfolded on Friday, March 7, 2025, when, just around 10:45 p.m., members of the Toms River Township Police Department spotted a white BMW heading eastbound over the Thomas A. Mathis Bridge speeding. Police Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the BMW, but the vehicle continued traveling northbound on Route 35 at a high rate of speed. 

     At that time, Police Officers ended the pursuit due to safety concerns, and Officers notified surrounding communities as to the make and model of the vehicle.

     A short time later, Seaside Heights Police Officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the BMW traveling on Route 35 southbound on Route 35 in excess of over 100 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour traffic zone. 

     Toms River Township Police Officers were stationed on the westbound side of the J. Stanley Tunney Bridge, where they observed the BMW continuing to travel at a high rate of speed westbound on Route 37. Police Officers followed the BMW at a distance but did not initiate a pursuit for safety concerns.

     Just minutes before 11:00 p.m., the BMW crashed into a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 166. As a result of the collision, the driver and the front-seat passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene. The two rear passengers in the Toyota Camry sustained serious injuries and were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, for treatment and are listed in critical condition.

     The driver of the BMW was uninjured in the crash and was detained. The front seat and rear seat passengers in the BMW were also transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where they were treated and released. Following being detained, The teen driver of the BMW was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River and was submitted to a court-authorized blood draw and subsequently charged.
