D.C. Police Charge Man In December 2024 Northeast Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, a 19-year-old Northeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man that occurred in December 2024 in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, December 30, 2024, shortly before 4:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to reports of gunfire on the 1800 Block of Benning Road in Northeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Damion Hill, 31, with no known address, on the ground, unresponsive from multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Hill was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by members of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
During a subsequent investigation by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, Detectives identified Caleb Padilla, 19, of Northeast, D.C., as the shooter and the person responsible for the death of Mr. Hill. Following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Padilla’s arrest.
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant, Padilla was located and taken into custody and formally charged with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed. Padilla was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
