SCRANTON, PA.- On Friday, a 50-year-old Dominican man with a lengthy criminal history, including felony convictions for firearms and drug offenses, learned he would be spending nearly the next three years in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being removed on four separate occasions.

On Friday, March 14, 2025, Ramon Medina Colon, 50, of the Dominican Republic, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Julia K. Munley to 33 months in federal prison for his previously entered guilty plea to Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.

Upon completion of his federal term of imprisonment, Medina Colon will face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

According to Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus and charging documents filed with the District Court, Medina Colon was first ordered removed from the United States in 2007 following his felony conviction for possessing a loaded firearm.

Following his 2007 removal, Medina Colon was subsequently found and removed from the United States an additional four times for felony convictions for possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, resisting arrest, and several offenses of driving under the influence. Medina Colon was also previously convicted of illegal reentry into the United States in 2012.

Acting U.S. Attorney Gurganus commended the investigative efforts of agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Enforcement Removal Operations, which led to the successful prosecution of Medina Colon.
